About

The younger brother of the famed filmmaker Sir Ridley Scott, Tony Scott continues to be one of the most successful and influential directors of action thriller cinema—a legend, if you will. Frequently collaborating with Jerry Bruckheimer and starring Denzel Washington, his filmography included such massive hits as Top Gun, True Romance, Crimson Tide, Déjà Vu, and Unstoppable.

Hollywood and the rest of the movie-loving world sank into sadness when the news broke on August 19, 2012, that Scott had passed away by suicide. He was cremated and his ashes were interred at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, a resting place for hundreds of Hollywood's greatest stars. His family established a scholarship fund at the American Film Institute in his name, asking for donations in lieu of flowers to honor his legacy.

If you do wish to bring some flowers to his grave, however, you may have a bit of difficulty locating it without knowing that it is engraved with his full birth name: Anthony David Leighton Scott. His tombstone is a fitting one, unconventional and full of action. Shaped like a piece of a rocky cliff rather than a traditional headstone, a sculpture of a brave adventurer climbs up its face hanging onto a single rope. If you didn't know it was Tony Scott's grave, you might assume it belongs to a rock climber.

After Tony Scott's death, several films were dedicated to him, including The Counselor and Exodus: Gods and Kings, both directed by his older brother Ridley Scott, and, most notably, Joseph Kosinski's 2022 film Top Gun: Maverick, which continued his legacy to be the biggest critical and financial success of the year.
