About
Slightly camouflaged against a backdrop of thin, closely-fitted trees is a bizarre home designed to look like a huge pile of timber. Seemingly carved out of the trees that surround it, the Tree Trunk Garden House in Hilversum is a modern take on a minimalist wooden home.
Dreamed up and constructed by Piet Hein Eek, the home is actually a tiny workspace for artist and musician Hans Liberg. An inside look reveals a set of small windows on the front made out of steel and plastic that allow for full ventilation inside the small cabin. With only small benches, a desk and a few bookshelves, the Tree Trunk House is a fresh take on earthy minimalist architecture.
Piet Hein Eek does not usually design homes, but his work is exhibited across Holland and Europe and he is well-known for his furniture crafted out of rough, raw materials. Much of it is available for purchase and true fans of the artist can even dine in his restaurant, which opened in 2010.
