About

An unusual spherical observatory sits on the highest point of a 200-foot diameter earth mound in Dublin, Ohio.

The Watch House is constructed out of copper, bronze, and stucco, and features holes in the spherical roof in the shape of everyday objects. A reference to the expanding universe. The earthen mound is also inspired by the Native American mounds located in Ohio.

In 1998, the observatory was created by Columbus artist, Todd Slaughter. The work intends to blend the imagery of modern culture with the community's native culture and traditions. In peak spring and summer, visitors can also see prairie grasses and native flowers.
