Help improve Atlas Obscura by expanding Fernald Preserve with additional information or photos.
Once a center of American nuclear strength and shrouded in Cold War secrecy, this location now provides ample habitat for wildlife and plants. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a day of hiking and wildlife observation, while always being a stone’s throw away from the massive mound of entombed radioactive waste located on site.
