About
This restaurant-and-museum features railroad memorabilia, historic artifacts, explorable train cars, and a set of miniature trains that chug from room to room on toy railways suspended from the ceiling.
The Whistle Stop Restaurant serves typical American fare, including standards such as burgers and sandwiches, along with a few more interesting selections, such as peppermint milkshakes. You may get lucky and find that your meal gets served with a complimentary dish of ice cream. But the real attractions at the restaurant are the model trains that can be heard whistling overhead.
There are several different trains on suspended tracks that go through "tunnels" in the walls to travel between rooms (keep an eye out for the model circus train). The walls of the restaurant are also covered in railroad-related newspaper articles, advertisements, and other historic artifacts.
The restaurant's historical focus stems from the fact that it shares its building with the Monon Connection Museum. There are also many prominent railroad artifacts to check out outside, including railway signs, train station overhangs, train cars you can climb aboard and explore, and (for whatever reason) farming equipment.
The train cars and large railway artifacts make the restaurant and museum easy to spot from the road, especially since the building is otherwise surrounded by the flat Indiana landscape.
