Benson House, on the grounds of Camp DeWolfe, was once used by the FBI to transmit disinformation to the Nazis during World War II.
Between 1942 and 1945, FBI agents pretending to be Nazi spies in the U.S. transmitted false information from Benson House to the German High Command, and in turn, learned of the High Command’s intentions as these “spies” were given orders.
The disinformation included descriptions of fictitious Allied armies set to invade Norway and other locations to turn German attention away from Normandy.
