About

On the shores of the Ards Peninsula, just a mile south of the County Down village of Ballyhalbert is a place of huge significance in terms of geographic locations. Here lies Burr Point, the easternmost point on the island of Ireland mainland, where Ireland meets the Irish Sea.

Located at Burr Point is a small harbor with a pier, a sandy shoreline, and what remains of an old Coastguard lookout point on the hill above. From here visitors can see Burial Island, a nesting site used for terns and also a former Danish Burial site.

There is also a sculpture of the letter “E” by artist Ned Jackson Smyth, which encompasses the concept of navigation and the earth, as well as promotes the area as the easternmost location on the Island of Ireland. The site also contains a small car park area and toilet facilities on site for any visitors.
