Due to its desert landscapes and desolate villages, the city of Durango was used as a filming location for many cowboy and Western films over the last century. As a tribute, Constitution Street and Paseo Las Alamedas square are lined with a series of statues depicting the movie stars who filmed here.

The lifesize statues seem to be part of the people who walk the streets, even coexisting with the structures they sit on or stand next to. Other actors that do not have a statue of their likeness are remembered in stars on the ground, a la Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

For Mexicans, it is easy to recognize the great stars of national cinema—stars like María Rojo, Diana Bracho, Felipe Cazals, Damián Alcazar, Hector Suárez, Luis Aguilar, and the film diva Dolores del Río (who certainly lived in Durango). But the names of the great international stars who came to Durango to film could have easily been lost if not for Durango's own Walk of Fame.

The statues immortalizes actors such as Audrey Hepburn (in The Unforgiven, 1959), Jack Nicholson (in Goin' South, 1977), Tony Scott and Kevin Costner (in Revenge, 1988), Luc Benson and Penelope Cruz (in Bandidas, 2004), and Eva Longoria (in For Greater Glory, 2010), as well as Kirk Douglas, Roland Joffe, Richard Gere, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Bill Paxton, Charlton Heston, and even Ringo Starr, who filmed Caveman here in 1980.
