About

The popular and award-winning HBO-produced television program Game of Thrones was based on a series of fantasy novels written by the American novelist George R. R. Martin. Most of the filming took place primarily in and around Northern Ireland.

To pay homage to the prosperity and boom in the tourist industry the series generated for the city, a series of six stained glass panels were erected along a pedestrian walkway in the city's Titanic District. Each of the windows is decorated with scenes from the show based on the various family houses depicted in the series, for instance: the House of Stark, House of Lannister, Baratheon, and House of Targaryen to the White Walkers and the Iron Throne.

Collectively, the one mile walk is known as 'The Glass of Thrones Belfast" and takes one past many municipal landmarks, including: 'The Salmon of Knowledge," The S.S. Nomadic, The Titanic Museum,"Samson and Goliath" and finishes near Titanic Studios.

"Glass of Thrones Belfast" is a collaborative effort between the production company and the tourist board. It involved the work of several different artists to design and hand illustrate each panel based on fan-based data for incorporating certain characters and scenes from the series. The staining of the glass took place in Bangor, County Down. This permanent installation was unveiled in 2019, to coincide with the final year of production.
