About

John Callahan was a legendary cartoonist from Portland. A quadriplegic since the age of 21 after an automobile accident, Callahan was one of Portland’s most well-known local celebrities. Everyone who drove through this section of of the city when Callahan was alive has fond memories of him hurrying about in his wheelchair. His cartoons were published weekly in the Willamette Week for nearly three decades. The garden includes a collection of his comics, biographical information, and plants that reflect his personality.
