About

The Digital TV Tower was built to distribute telecommunications signals to the city of Brasília and was opened to the public in 2012. Later, it was remodeled to provide breathtaking views of the city. In keeping with the Brasiliense architectural style of weird buildings and white-washed modernist concrete, the tower was designed to be seen from afar.

One of the last designs from renowned modernist architect Oscar Niemeyer, the building resembles a curious flower if seen from a distance—hence its nickname, the "Savannah Flower," or the Cerrado Flower. Part telecommunications tower part observational deck, the monument permits a 360 view of the city, the Cerrado vegetation, and all of the city's mid-century brutalist architecture from a glance.

Besides the observational hub, the tower doubles as an entertainment center, with restaurants, stores, and cafés sprayed around its feet. Still unknown to most of Brasiliense and a well-kept secret from tourists, this weird-looking spot is an alternative to taking in the views of the planned city of Brasilia from a privileged standing point.
