In 2009, the Whitelee Wind Farm opened to the public. With 215 turbines, the farm provides enough renewable clean energy for just under 300,000 homes. The Whitelee Wind Farm is little more than a 20-minute drive from Glasgow and provides free parking, a fascinating visitor’s center, a cafe to enjoy lunch, and bus tours that take you around the entire complex. 

Feeling more like a massive open-air art installation, the farm offers breathtaking views and more than 62 miles (100 kilometers) of trails for cyclists, walkers, and pets to explore. If you love windmills, you will love this strangely beautiful place.
