In leafy Wimbledon, looking like an ornate postbox, sits a Grade II-listed Victorian electrical substation, which has been dated to 1875. Recently refurbished by Heritage of London Trust, the transformer was one of the first in the country to be installed.
Made by the British Electric Transformer Co of Hayes, Middlesex, it has been restored to its original condition, after careful analysis of the original paint.
