About

In Karve Nagar, a residential area in western Pune, India, a delightful private museum showcases more than 150 vintage bicycles and many accessories. Created by Vikram Pendse, the museum is set on three floors in a residential bungalow.

One floor has a section dedicated to bicycle accessories such as gears, seats, dynamos, pumps, lamps, locks, and more. There is also a collection of Bicycle Tax Badges, which used to be issued by the city’s municipal corporation and the cantonment board. There is also a collection of Jos. Lucas Ltd. Silver King bicycle lamps made by Joseph Lucas Ltd., Birmingham.

Another floor features antique and vintage household items from the past century, such as sewing machines, radio sets, typewriters, cigarette lighters, kitchen utensils, cutlery, jewelry boxes, and perfume bottles.

Another section has a vintage BSA Paratrooper, a bicycle used by soldiers during World War II. There is also a small reproduction of an old-fashioned bicycle repair shop, complete with tools, shelves, and boxes. Adorning the walls are vintage bicycle advertisements.

Each floor has a collection of antique bicycles, including baby carriages and adult tricycles. A Golden Sunbeam (1914), Royal Enfield (1924), James (1925), and Rudge (1930) are also among the bikes on display.
